Research Updates Brand Designation in Drug Databases
Industry | Drug Compendia |
Problem | A brand manufacturer believed that its product had a unique release property that differentiated it from competitor’s products. The product was considered by drug database providers to be an originator drug with generic competition. The client believed their drug should be classified as a single source brand with no generic equivalents. |
PHSI Solution | PHSI researched drug database providers to find products that had single source brand designations due to unique dosage forms and/or release properties. PHSI created a report summarizing these examples with an explanation as to how these situations were similar to the client’s product. |
Results | PHSI's report was shared with the respective drug database providers to support the manufacturers request to receive its own Generic Product Indicator (GPI) and Generic Code Number (GCN) from the drug database providers. The client was successful in convincing the drug database providers to make the requested brand classification changes. |
