PHSI President Tim Kosty’s presentation on January 19^th at the ASAP Annual Industry & Technology Issues Conference discussed current and future Prior Authorization business models.  The current form and fax model will eventually be replaced by an Electronic Prior Authorization (ePA) process.  CVS Caremark has a current ePA pilot underway that is scheduled to run through June 2012.  Tim estimates an industry ePA solution will be implemented in the next 3 years as industry stakeholders discuss, negotiate and eventually agree on a process and standard format through an NCPDP work group.
